The history of the Scala Museum started in 1911 when some importants aristocratics of Milan, like the duke Umberto Visconti, the senator Mangili, the doctor Modigliani ( director of Pinacoteca Di Brera), gathered to decided the purchase Giulio Sambon's teather collection, that was auctioned in Paris. However a problem appared.
The aristocratics needed to find the necessary funds in a week for the auction. With the help of the governement and the help of 50 citizen the collection was handed to the city of Milan.
The museum was officially opened on 8 March 1913. The initial collection of Giulio Sambon joined donations and purchases that now make the Scala museum one of the most envied.
The Museum is for many opera lovers and for many students a point of reference.
